WE HAVE EGGS!!!

  • Oct. 20th, 2007 at 2:29 PM

Finally!  We got the first one yesterday and found another today.  I'm not sure whose laying yet, but I'm guessing Ginger since she's about 2 weeks older than the rest of the flock.  Woo hoo!  I know this was inevitible but we've been waiting since Mother's day and couldn't help but thinking we'd messed up somewhere along the line.  Here's a picture:

It's a little small, but the hens aren't full grown yet, so that's to be expected.  It's brown--we weren't sure what color we'd get since our hens are a cross between buff orpingtons (brown eggs) and Araucanas(green eggs).  It's wonderfully smooth with a hard shell, so I guess I can stop worrying about their diet!

I am soooo looking forward to the day that we can stop buying eggs!!!

Garden bounty

Thought I'd post a few pics of the overgrown garden!

Bean teepee (bigger now) and the mini pumpkin patch

Dead strawberries didn't survive that 104 degree day :(

The bean bed--they've been doing really well

Growing potatoes in tires

Meet the gals.  Our goal is to get a better home by the end of the summer

Help! The squash is going to get me

  • Aug. 13th, 2007 at 4:04 PM

It's totally taking over our yard and driveway.  I should post some pics, but I'm pretty bad about that.

Crazy summer weather this year--our pole beans haven't produced anything yet but we're already eating acorn squash.  Acorn squash in August!  It feels like fall.  How weird.

I read that because of global warming we might actually be thrown into another ice age--ocean currents/jet stream getting messed up or something like that.  Maybe it's going to start getting colder instead of getting warmer... :-(
